Start Line / Aid Stations
Starts in the beautiful surrounds of Kew Gardens. Good toilet facilities and information tents. Bag drop trucks not ideal as they have to stay outside of gardens and therefore away from other facilities. Gate near trucks gets busy with runners going in and out. If day is cool take a throw away for start so you can leave your drop bag early. Aid stations as expected but one just after half way ran out of water this year (see our post). New initiative to reduce plastic waste – smaller bottles and paper cups to be applauded.
Medal/T-shirt/Goody Bag
Good quality medal and t-shirt. Useful post-race goody bag. Excellent finishers area – Race Village with food and drink available to buy and live music for entertainment.
Accommodation
Local race for us so haven’t tried to book accommodation. Hotels around Richmond will be usual London prices.
Restaurants
Richmond has plenty of variety – both ends of price spectrum.
Comments
Marathon is part of Richmond Runfest. 10K and half also available. This event has become more popular in recent years. The course follows the Thames tow path for much of it but does also go through busy shopping areas. Nicely varied though and a good race for beginners.
