Marathon

Bordeaux Night Marathon

Type

Mainly road, city/rural. Also 10k and half.

Course

Starts in the centre of town and takes runners out to visit vineyards then winds its way back to city centre. Flat and fast but out of town bits can be quite dark in places.

Expo

Small expo in city centre on river. Medical certificate needed to pick up number.

Start Line / Aid Stations

Wave start but chaotic as race delayed due to weather. Heavy rain whilst standing in start pens and little information about revised timing. Aid stations as expected but constant heavy rain affected what was on offer. Food items got wet. Adequate toilet facilities.

Medal/T-shirt/Goody Bag

Good quality medal, goody (shopping) bag with mainly food items. Poor quality tech t-shirt.

Accommodation

Again lots of hotels in centre. We stayed at the Mercure Bordeaux Centre Gare Saint Jean. They were very good and gave us late check out.

Restaurants

Plenty of good quality restaurants in the city centre.

Comments

This was a good event with an attractive and lively city centre start – music, light show etc but spoilt somewhat by the bad weather caused by storm Henry(?). We got very cold and wet in the start pens and didn’t get chance to dry out. The locals seemed much better prepared.
