Marathon
Liverpool Rock n’ Roll Marathon
Type
Road, City
Course
Undulating and interesting – takes in four parks, two football grounds, the Beatles ‘Penny Lane’ and the river front. Live music at various points on course. Support patchy but good when present.
Expo
Some useful exhibits. Number pick-up or pay for postal delivery.
Start Line / Aid Stations
Start is near Albert Dock area. Good facilities. Well stocked aid stations, nothing special.
Medal/Tshirt/Goody Bag
Good quality medal and t-shirt. Snacks and drinks available in a do it yourself style goody bag at finish. Also free beer and live music.
Accommodation
Accommodation expensive for race weekend and sells out – book early. We’ve stayed in Staybridge Suites (on start line), Crowne Plaza (10 min walk to start).
Restaurants
As usual lots of choice in the city but book for Saturday night.
Comments
Liverpool is our home/university town so we are very fond of it and have enjoyed pacing this marathon for past 5 years. As with all Rock n’ Roll events it is expensive but we would recommend it. Plenty to distract you as you run – a real tour of the city taking in all the main attractions. If it is a windy day last 4 miles along the river can be challenging but course is rarely congested. Another good one for beginners.
